This versatile and beautiful bowl can be your favorite breakfast, snack, or even dessert. I introduced it to the family back in late spring and it’s become our favorite ever since. At different times and depending on what I find in my kitchen, I vary the fruit, –any two types among strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, mango, pine apple, peach– the juice that wets the bottom fruit layer, the yogurt, –plain, vanilla, strawberry– and the toppings seeds, cereal flakes, all bran, chocolate chips, chocolate, flakes, candy sprinkles, or Trader Joe’s oat and wheat bran swirls that you see in the photo). Always enjoyable and a great healthy choice for dessert.
Ingredients and recipe
- A layer of fruit cut in small cubes –strawberries make my favorite bottom layer.
- Enough juice to barely (but not quite) cover the first layer –pomegranate juice, apple juice, orange juice, etc.
- A layer of yogurt –plain makes it more appropriate for breakfast, vanilla or strawberry for a snack or dessert.
- Cereal/grains or fun chocolaty topping
It’s fine to prepare ahead of time and store in the fridge. It stays cool for a day or two. Add the toppings when you serve.
