Baked sandwiches

This is no gourmet dish. But if all you have for dinner is sandwiches, this is a good way to turn your sandwiches into dinner.  I found the recipe n Nigella Express. Do not expect too much so you won’t be disappointed.  But the kids liked it and thought they were having dinner.

Recipe

Ingredients

  • six slices bread (I use multigrain)
  • Dijon mustard
  • 3 slices ham
  • 3 slices cheese
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons shredded cheese (I used cheddar and actually more than that)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (you can make it optional if you must)

How to make: Spread the bread slices with mustard. Make  three sandwiches with ham and cheese. Arrange the sandwiches in a pan small enough to fit them tightly. Mine was a tad too big as you can see in the photo. Beat the eggs with the milk and salt.  Cover the pan with cling film and let it stand in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight. When ready,  remove the cling film, sprinkle the  Worcestershire sauce, top with the grated cheese and bake in pre-heated 390F/200C oven for 25 minutes. Ready!
